Two calls for proposals opened at the end of December: a call for seed projects and a call for thesis projects. If you have a project in mind, now is the time to start preparing!

Official notification and documentation has been sent by email.

Annual HealthTech Day

The third annual HealthTech Day took place on December 5 and was a great success with over 100 of our colleagues, doctoral students, and Master students in attendance. We would like to thank all of our presenters for sharing their work, especially plenary speakers Olivier Couture and Anirban Mukhopadhyay, who traveled to Strasbourg to take part in the event. We would also like to congratulate Camille Graëff, former HealthTech Master student and current HealthTech-funded PhD student, for her presentation on her research in wrist fracture surgical video analysis. She was awarded the best oral presentation by a young researcher.

Research
M2 Research Projects

In March 2023, HealthTech opened a call for proposals for 2nd year Master's student research projects. Thirty-three projects were submitted for 15 M2 students (HealthTech Fellows + PolyMtl), making this the most successful call for proposals to date. Since the very first call for Master proposals, the number of submissions has gone up nearly 110%, which enables students to select projects that best fit their profile and research path.

On September 13, the Master 2 students had the opportunity to meet with the project supervisors in order to gain a better understanding of the submitted projects and to discuss their fit for a specific project. Out of the 15 Master 2 students, 11 received their first choice in project assignments. For a look at the variety of projects and the supervisor/Master's student pairings, check out our website at : https://healthtech.unistra.fr/training/master-research-projects

We would like to thank all those who submitted projects to the call for proposals and we look forward to the next opening of the call for Master research proposals in spring 2024.

Welcome (Back) Doctoral Student Event

On October 17th, HealthTech welcomed new and current doctoral students and their supervisors at the IHU in order to reinforce the connection between doctoral students and the HealthTech program. This event began with a presentation of the HealthTech consortium and community, including information about the stipends for travel and small material purchases, and the obligation for all affilated projects to bear the acknowledgement statement. The presentation was followed by a reception in the 2nd floor cafeteria.

Students

On September 7, the HealthTech coordination team met with the incoming and rising Master's students for a back-to-school coffee morning and welcome presentation. HealthTech is pleased to welcome 4 new M1 students, 7 new M2 students, and 7 rising M2 students, who previously completed the M1 HealthTech.

Toward an Intelligent Assistant to Invention in R&D

On Thursday, November 16, 2023, HealthTech-affiliated researcher and teacher, Denis Cavallucci, gave a seminar on the use of text-mining tools, used for the analysis of diverse multi-disciplinary, scientific, and technical texts (articles, websites, patents), in the context of the search for transdisciplinary solutions to various R&D problems.

Past Events
MedFIT

As part of HealthTech's strategy to further develop relations with the socio-economic world, HealthTech took part in MedFIT 2023, held in Strasbourg on October 10th and 11th in collaboration with our partner, BioValley France. MedFIT, which focuses on innovation in medical technolgy, provided the opportunity for HealthTech and associated platforms, specifically IRIS and GAIA, to meet both companies within the local ecosystem with whom there had been little previous contact, as well as those on a European scale.

HealthTech received funding through the University of Strasbourg's Call for Proposals entitled Links with the socio-economic world.

Success Story
Taurus Endoscopy

HealthTech would like to congratulate Taurus Endoscopy, a start-up specializing in innovative solutions in flexible digestive endoscopy, founded by HealthTech members Bruno Mutet and Lee Swanstrom, for its success in raising 2.5M euros in venture capital from the French fund, MEDEVICE Capital and the U.S. fund Santé Ventures.

HealthTech Master's students learn about and benefit from Mutet's experience in medical device development and innovation in his course, Innovation Processes in MedTech.

Looking Ahead

Upcoming Event
Summer School in Surgical Data Science

Following last year's success, the Surgical Data Science (SDS) Summer School will be returning to Strasbourg for its 3rd year with HealthTech as a proud sponsor. The program will be held the week of July 15-19, 2024 and applications will open in early 2024 through their website. Applicants will need to register first on the EVE platform and complete the lecture series, after which they are able to apply for the intensive week in person. The five-day intensive program will consist of a series of lectures and hands-on labs which will provide the selected participants with a unique opportunity to work in small teams on practical surgical data science projects.
